Traumatic fractures of the forehead, nose, bones surrounding the eyes, cheekbones, and lower and upper jaw bones in the facial area are the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Surgical treatment is based on the principle of completely revealing the fracture lines, correctly positioning the fractures, and fixing the fractures with titanium plate and screw systems.
Surgery can be performed using incisions made in the skin along with the fracture, or surgery can be performed through incisions made in the mouth, eyelids and scalp, and scars generally do not cause any problems. The aim of facial bone fracture surgery is to preserve or restore both functions and aesthetic appearance.
After surgery, patients may need to eat liquids for a certain period of time and then switch to soft foods. After full recovery, patients can switch to their normal diet.
It may take 3-4 weeks for the swelling that may occur after the surgery to subside. Facial bones boil quite quickly. Boiling is achieved within 10-15 days and the pain decreases.
