It is the process of reconstructing the breast after removal of the breast due to a tumor or another disease. Breast reconstruction can be performed in almost any woman who has lost her breast due to cancer.

Breast reconstruction (breast creation) can be performed simultaneously with the removal of the breast or secondary to the completion of breast cancer treatment.

Today, as long as the disease is not in a very advanced stage, simultaneous operations are preferred for better cosmetic results and better protection of the patient’s psychology. This decision is taken before the operation, with the joint evaluations of the surgeon following the breast cancer, the plastic surgeon who will perform the reconstruction, and the patient.

For this purpose, the lost breast tissue can be repaired with the body’s own tissues, silicone prostheses and tissue expanders. Many surgical procedures have been described. Lost breast tissue;

With the body’s own tissues (muscle and skin flaps),

With silicone prostheses used in breast augmentation,

With tissue expanders (a special prosthesis of various shapes and sizes, made of silicone, placed under the tissue in a certain area, inflated with a valve system) or with the combinations of these, can be repaired.

More than one operation is usually required for an acceptable result. Operations are performed under general anesthesia. The length of stay in the hospital varies according to the nature of the operation. You will be informed by your surgeon about all stages of the operation.
